India’s Manushi Chhillar was today crowned as Miss World 2017 at a grand event held in Sanya in China. The 20-year-old medical student from Haryana had won Femina Miss India World 2017 in May this year. The announcment was made on the pageant’s official Twitter handle.
Her win comes 17 years after Priyanka Chopra won Miss World in 2000

India’s Manushi Chhillar has won the Miss World beauty pageant for the year 2017. The win comes 17 years after Priyanka Chopra brought home the coveted title in the year 2000.
Ms Chhillar, a 20-year-old from Haryana, studied in St. Thomas School in New Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat. Ms Chhillar aims to be a cardiac surgeon and has plans of opening non-profit hospitals in rural areas.
After reaching the top five, Ms Chhillar was asked during the Question and Answer round, which profession she thought deserved the highest salary and why.
Replying to the question, Ms Chhillar said it was not a question about a person’s salary and that a mother was worthy of the highest respect.
Manushi had made it to the top 5 along with contestants from England, France, Kenya and Mexico.
The first and the second runners-up were Miss England Stephanie Hill and Miss Mexico Andrea Meza.
The coveted title was last won by Priyanka Chopra for India in 2000, a year after Yukta Mookhey had made the country proud.
In 1997, Diana Hayden had bagged the title, while Aishwarya Rai had the honours in 1994.
Reita Faria was the first Indian to win the crown in the 1966.
